Dry Flow Meter for Gas Measurement

NON-CONFIDENTIAL DESCRIPTION

Dry Flow Meter for Gas Measurement

Technology Description

Scientists at the University of California, Davis, have developed a novel and highly efficient precision gas flow meter. Because of its precision and non-manual operation, the apparatus allows control of certain predetermined variables. For example, the gas flow rate can be continuously measured and recorded during a specified time frame. The new meter is capable of:

  • Gas collection and venting,
  • Gas holding and measurement, and
  • Electronic control and recording.
The major limitations of current flow meters suitable for small flow measurement are:
  • Contact with fluid causes loss of some gases.
  • Flow is measured by an imprecise and labor-demanding manual logging method.

Applications

Possible applications include:

  • Bio-reactors
  • Medical and pharmaceutical use
  • Fermentation industry
  • Electronic industry
  • University/research laboratories

Advantages

The advantages of this new precision gas flow meter include:

  • Measurement of small flow rates with high precision in the range of 0.01 to 10 liters per minute.
  • Measurement of soluble as well as insoluble gases.
  • Measurement of continuous or discontinuous gas flow.
  • Electronic control and data acquisition.
  • Programmable control of output gas volume at selected temperatures and pressures.
